This page is about Guelph real estate and the subdistricts within our community. Since Guelph is a large community, we’ve divided up the information on the communities within the districts of Guelph further below.
Guelph is known as the Royal City and is named after British Monarch King George IV who was from the Guelph lineage. Our exciting and robust downtown resembles a European city center, complete with squares, broad main streets, and narrow side streets.
In 2009 Guelph was named Canada’s safest city, one of the country’s smartest communities, and Canada’s volunteer capital. The City of Guelph is rich in culture, architecture, parks and riverside green spaces.
A dynamic and vibrant community of over 120,000 people, Guelph has been ranked among the top 10 places to live in Canada. Our city is located in one of the strongest economic regions in the country: 45 minutes to the west of Toronto and just east of Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo.
We are home to the University of Guelph and to Conestoga College which is consistently rated the top college in Canada. We are also conveniently close to both the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.
Our city is home to many large manufacturers, including Sleeman Breweries, Linamar Manufacturing, McNeil Consumer Products, RWDI Consulting Engineers and most recently Wurth Canada.
Downtown the Sleeman Center, River Run Center and our new spectacular City Hall – there is always something going on. Guelph Civic Museum, MacDonald Stewart Art Center and McCrae House are very popular attractions. The City of Guelph owns and operates McCrae House, the family home and birthplace of Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, author of In Flanders Fields.
